FAQ’s

Do I need a Public Screening Licence?

For the purposes of copyright in Australia, a screening of a film outside the home is generally regarded as “in public”.

Even if the organisation screening the film is a non-profit organisation (such as at an exhibition or in a church) permission from the copyright holder is still required.

Until the copyright owner or its licensed representative has given written permission, you are not authorised to conduct the public screening. You should not assume that permission will be granted as each decision is at the sole discretion of the copyright owner or its licensed representative.

Twilight Flicks Outdoor Cinema will advise about which movies are available for public screening and arrange the licence and pricing.

What do movie licences cost?

We only find out the actual price of movie licensing after the licence has been requested. Licencing is done by external companies and factors such as the time of year, movie, and audience size can all influence the cost. As a general guideline, we usually secure licencing for between $300 and $700. If you have a popular film in mind, the chances are that we will have screened it recently elsewhere so should be able to provide a reasonably accurate idea before applying.

What time will the movie start?

At Twilight Flicks Outdoor Cinema we use a projection based system for screenings. This means that the picture quality is best when it is dark. We recommend at least 20-30 minutes after the official time of sunset for your area.

What happens if there is bad weather?

We offer the following weather-related policy for all events:

  • Postponement at no extra cost – can occur up to 2 days prior to an event.
  • Postponement if less than 2 days’ notice – will incur a rebooking fee of 25% of our event fee.
  • Cancelled within 2 days of event – will result in refund of licence only.

Please note that once we have departed our premises to host an event, which is then cancelled due to weather, there will be no refund.

Where can I host an outdoor movie event?

We regularly hold events and screen movies in school grounds and council approved public spaces, at swimming pools, in parking lots, and on private property for corporate events and fundraisers. Tell us where you’re thinking of screening, and we’ll let you know how feasible and how practical it is from our perspective.

Are chairs allowed?

Generally, yes depending on the event

Can I bring my dog?

This depends on the event and who is hosting it.
